CNSs practice nursing at an advanced level.  The outcomes of CNS practice contribute to safe, quality, cost-effective outcomes for clients and advance the practice of nursing within nursing’s autonomous legal scope of practice.  This conference will focus on the outcomes and competencies of CNS practice for clients, nurses, nursing practice, health care systems, communities, and patient populations across the lifespan.

The conference will highlight new strategies to change organizational culture, uncover system complexity, identify resiliency in nurses and other health personnel and bridge gaps so that quality outcomes are achieved. A focus on CNS Education may address how patient safety, organizational complexity and quality patient outcomes are emphasized in CNS curricula.  Concurrent and poster abstracts should highlight the role of the CNS/CNS graduate student.

General Information:
Submissions are requested for innovations in CNS education and practice. Abstracts will be considered for both concurrent session and poster presentations.  Authors may submit abstracts of completed work, work in progress, or work presented at local or regional meetings.  Do not submit abstracts containing information that has been published previously or presented to national or international nursing audiences.  The primary author is responsible for obtaining consent from all authors and any employer or patient/client clearances before submitting the abstract.

Concurrent presentations will be made in 60 minute sessions.  Authors of accepted abstracts must be available to present for the designated period during the conference and are responsible for paying their own conference expenses.  For abstracts with multiple authors, the authors must decide on the presenter(s).  All authors will be listed on published abstracts. Poster presentations will be on cork-board easels.  Student abstracts are invited for poster presentations and require faculty advisor’s name, faculty advisor’s approval and identification of the school.  Abstracts may focus on the conference theme or scholarly inquiries into evidence-based practice, clinical improvement projects or outcomes related to enhancement of the CNS’s practice or role through basic and continuing education. During the poster sessions, at least one author must be available to dialogue with participants.

Presenters are required to register for the conference.  Single day registrations are available.  Presenters must pay all registration, travel, lodging and expenses associated with the presentation. International presenters are expected to assure that the presentation is suitable for an English-speaking audience or, alternatively, arrange for a translator if the abstract is selected.

Submission of a student abstract is considered a commitment to attend the conference and present the content if the student abstract is selected for poster presentation.

Guidelines for Submission:

  • All abstracts must be submitted using an online form at www.nacns.org.
  • Individuals may submit more than one abstract.
  • If more than one abstract from a single presenter is accepted, NACNS reserves the right to accept only one as a concurrent session and assign the other(s) to be presented as poster(s).
  • The abstract title must accurately reflect the content of the presentation.
  • All authors’ affiliations should be included in the submission.
  • Student abstracts require faculty advisor’s name with statement of approval and identification of the school.
  • Abstracts not in compliance with the required guidelines will be returned to the author and will not be considered.

  • Clinical Projects/Innovations, Descriptions of System Processes and Clinical Issue Analysis:  the purpose/objectives, significance, background/rationale, description, outcome, interpretation/conclusion and implications for practice.
