As a Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will be charged with establishing and monitoring care standards and making recommendations for changes as needed. Key functions will include collaborating with the nursing staff in assessing patient and family age-specific nursing needs and developing a plan of care for high-risk patients, in addition to evaluating the effectiveness of the care provided. The CNS will also be relied on to design teaching programs for patients/families. This will involve assessing staff knowledge and identifying competency-based education needs of staff and members. Responsibilities will include introducing new techniques/innovations, making recommendations to change standards of care or standards of practice, and defining/implementing best nursing practices.
Clinical Nurse Specialist

We are seeking an experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist who is passionate about nursing excellence to join the Critical Care Team at Palomar Medical Center. Professional nursing practice at Palomar Pomerado Health system is guided by the AACN Healthy Work Environment Standards and the Relationship-Based Care Model.
Responsibilities include:
- Work as a consultant to the Department of Nursing, the Medical Staff and Administration.
- Collaboration with PPH Leadership and staff for insuring the provision of nursing care meets standards identified in professional literature, the standards statements of professional organizations and state and federal regulations.
- Serves as a clinical expert and mentor for staff.
- Focuses on the needs of the patients in the system, interacts with others in the Department of Nursing and in Ancillary Services to best serve patients and their families.
- Participates in the development of orientation programs, didactic presentations and clinical mentoring for novice to expert practitioners.
- Promotes continuity and quality care through the use of data and the integration of the performance improvement philosophy into practice.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Follows PPH rules, policies, procedures, applicable laws, and standards.
- Carries out the mission, vision, values, and quality commitment of PPH.

Requirements
- Minimum Education: As required by certification and/or licensure
- Minimum Experience: 3 years acute hospital
- Preferred Experience: 1 year as CNS in area of expertise
- Required Certification: American Heart Association recognized BLS - Healthcare Provider
- Required License: Current CA RN License and Current CA Clinical Nurse Specialist License

We are currently seeking a full-time Clinical Nurse Specialist/Educator for our Adult Critical Care Unit. The Nurse Educator will function as an expert clinical educator, consultant, and researcher for the health care team, patients and family members of the Cardiovascular ICU, Medical Surgical ICU and the Emergency Department. Candidate will be required to meet and exceed all performance expectations as a Registered Nurse while delivering and facilitating high quality care for normal and high-risk patients.
Qualified candidates must possess:
- California Registered Nurse License
- Master’s Degree in Nursing (those not prepared at advanced level must seek application and commence education within six months of employment in role)
- Basic Life Support Certification
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification or obtained within 60 days of hire
