Duties and responsibilities:
Autonomous nursing care is the ability of a nurse to assess and provide
nursing actions as appropriate for patient care populations based on
competence, professional expertise, and knowledge. The nurse is
expected to practice autonomous, consistent with ANA Standards of
Practice. Independent judgment is expected to be exercised within the
context of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary approaches to
patient care.
This position will provide content and clinical expertise in
Cardiovascular Nursing and be instrumental in the opening of the
Cardiovascular Center (CVC) in April 2011. Responsibilities will
immediately include:
* Determine support & supplies (trainers, rooms, equip, furn, etc.)
required for staff training/orientation (include 'mock rooms')
* Development of content for 'tiered' orientation structure as new
staff transition to work in the CVC.
* Determine # of trainers required for orientation program & identify
trainers for each topic/area.
* Develop a comprehensive new hospital & department orientation &
training timeline, implementation schedule & materials including:
Guidelines, competencies, templates, policies and procedures, &
distribute to educators, managers, etc.)
* Develop schedule, plan & training mechanism for orientation
compliance (Fire, Life Safety FLS), hospital, department, new employee)
* Identify room & functionality requirements (equip, furn, IT,
applications, etc) for staff training/orientation (consider contractor
'mock up rooms')
This position will maintain responsibility for orientation and training
of new and current staff providing care to the cardiovascular patient
population. Consultation, as needed throughout the organization.
Organizational initiatives will also be assigned as needed to this job
description.
Special conditions of employment:
CA RN license, BCLS (CPR), ACLS and a minimum of 5 years of inpatient
critical care nursing experience with a focus on cardiovascular patient
population.
Qualifications: Minimum Requirements
* 5 years inpatient critical care nursing experience with focus on
cardiovascular patient population.
* Proficient with information systems and computer programs such as
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
* RN License issued by the State of California, BLS and/or BART,
Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN), and Clinical Nurse Specialist
(CNS).
Preferred:
* Clinical Nurse Specialist Certification
* 2+ years CNS with Cardiovascular patient population
* Previous experience in leadership role
* Ability to interface with all levels of providers.
* Orientation and training of staff nurses within the critical care
population
* Experience with program development and didactic and unit-based
clinical education.
