CNS Educator of the Year Award

The purpose of the award is to nationally recognize an NACNS member for outstanding professional achievement as a Clinical Nurse Specialist Educator. The award acknowledges a CNS educator’s commitment to excellence and innovation in preparing CNSs and in implementing the NACNS Statement on CNS Practice and Education.

2011

June Como, MSA, MS, EdD (c)June Como, MSA, MS, EdD (c) A dedicated CNS and Educator, June is a role model for students and colleagues alike; providing excellent leadership in education, policy development and implementation. A coordinator of a High Fidelity Simulation Center, June has enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration and provided innovative solutions for the preparation of the CNS. An unsung hero of the aftermath of 9/11, she created the Homeport Rescue-WTC 911 - Nurses First Aid Center, which was in existence from 9/11/01 to 11/1/01, providing critical care to first-responders.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2009

Elaine Steinke, PhD, ARNP, CNS was named the CNS Educator of the Year. Dr. Steinke, who has taught in the Adult Health and Illness Clinical Nurse Specialist option for approximately 20 years, is known as an exemplar scholar for junior faculty and Clinical Nurse Specialist students. She is a full professor who has achieved national and international recognition. Dr. Steinke brings a wealth of knowledge to the graduate nursing students in both the Master of Science and Doctor of Nursing Practice degree programs.  Her commitment to high quality graduate education is evident in her curriculum development and teaching abilities.  She has numerous relevant publications in a variety of journals and books.  Her scholarship is noteworthy and cited throughout the literature in her topic area.

2008

Cathy J. Thompson, PhD, RN, CNS was selected 2007 Clinical Nurse Specialist Educator of the Year. She was officially recognized at the NACNS annual awards luncheon on Friday, March 8, 2008, during the NACNS annual conference in Atlanta, GA. In her award nomination, Thompson’s students and peers described her excellence in teaching CNS students, devotion to the CNS program and leadership among her colleagues. Thompson also received the Chancellor’s Teaching Recognition award from the graduate school the University of Colorado in 2006 and the President’s Award for teaching excellence at the School of Nursing in 2004.
