CNS Preceptor of the Year Award

CNS Preceptor of the Year The purpose of the award is to nationally recognize an NACNS member for outstanding professional achievement as a Clinical Nurse Specialist Preceptor. The award acknowledges a CNS preceptor who has demonstrated commitment to teach, coach and mentor CNS students to achieve CNS competencies in the nurse, patient, and organizational spheres as reflected in the NACNS Statement on CNS Practice and Education (2004).

2011

Sharron Coffie, MS, RN, CNS-BC is an ideal preceptor who maintains a clear focus on patient outcomes and assists students in understanding how their CNS role has an impact. Ever-encouraging, the supportive and empowering environment Sharron creates promotes more independent engagement during Clinical instruction. Teaching and coaching is an integrated into interactions with patients, nurses, and students. Leadership is provided to create a positive work environment where staff and students can grow and develop and patient outcomes are achieved.

2010

Linda M. Hoke, PhD, RN is regarded by students as a superb CNS, leader, and mentor. She challenges students to sharpen their critical thinking skills and empowers them to seek opportunities for personal and professional growth. CNS faculty know her as an exceptional preceptor who facilitates students' development by both supporting and challenging them.

Dr. Hoke exemplifies the power of CNS influence through her skillful precepting.

2009

Marianne Hujcs, MSN, RN, CCRN, CNRN, CNS is the 2009 CNS Preceptor of the Year. Hujcs is described as a “gift that keeps on giving” who has changed the course of students’ lives and, in the span of a single semester, influenced them so strongly that they maintain a life-long relationship with someone many consider their “greatest preceptor ever”. She leads and inspires her students, nurses, colleagues and fellow CNSs. During 14 year history of precepting, her influence has extended to students from 5 different colleges in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Utah. While precepting students and working as a CNS, she is known for her outstanding ability to inspire staff to deliver excellent care. Hujcs has a unique ability to unite both the theoretical and didactic aspects of preceptorship within the dynamic critical care environment.

2007

Kathryn Anne "Katie' Brush, RN, MS, CCRN, CONS, FCCM selected 2007 Clinical Nurse Specialist Preceptor of the Year, awarded posthumously. Katie Brush was chosen because of her dedication to mentoring students and sharing her expertise as a Critical Care Clinical Nurse Specialist. “Katie Brush has left a legacy of dedication to professional nursing and the clinical specialist role. Her life was committed to advancing nursing and improving patient care on a global arena. While working in Boston or traveling around the world to serve those in need, Katie brought knowledge, hope, spirit, and talent to all she touched.”

2006

Ginger S. Pierson, MSN, RN, CCRN, CNS was awarded the 2006 Clinical Nurse Specialist Preceptor of the Year because of her demonstrated competence in mentoring students to apply evidence-based theory to clinical practice, and in recognition of the positive learning experiences that she provides for students, and the passion for professional development that she models.
