CNS Researcher of the Year Award

CNS Researcher of the Year  The purpose of the award is to nationally recognize an NACNS member for outstanding professional achievement as a clinical nurse specialist who has conducted original nursing research that has significantly enhanced the science of autonomous nursing practice, patient and family outcomes, and/or health care systems. The award acknowledges a nurse for an accomplished program of research that has significantly contributed to advancing the nursing profession.

2011

Annette DeVito Dabbs, RN, PhD, ACNS-BC, FAANAnnette DeVito Dabbs, RN, PhD, ACNS-BC, FAAN. Dr. Dabbs' longstanding record of patient-centered research began in the 1980s. While most CNSs strive to fulfill the competencies of the CNS role, few reach her level of success. Her research has informed nursing practice in areas such as adherence to complex regimens, active involvement of patients in their care and health related quality of life. Since 1998 she has received over $3.5 million in funding from the National Institute of Nursing Research and other specialty organizations to design and test internventions to promote self-care behaviors and active partnerships between patients and nurse providers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

2010

Janice M. Buelow, PhD, RN is the 2010 recipient of the CNS Researcher of the Year award. Dr. Buelow's program of research has positioned her as a leader in the field of epilepsy research. She has conducted six funded research studies that have targeted both patients and families. She heads one of the few research teams in the country that is examining and testing a parent centered intervention (problem solving skills) for parents of children with normal to borderline IQs and epilepsy. And, Dr. Buelow was the first researcher in the United States to conduct a study on epilepsy monitoring room/unit (EMU) safety. Currently she is completing a Dephl study to develop safety standards for these units.

2009

Morris A. Magnan, PhD, RN is the 2009 recipient of the CNS Researcher of the Year award. Dr. Magnan is known for his ability to communicate with nurses at all levels of practice and to work collaboratively across disciplines to advance nursing practice and research. He has a consistent record of writing research proposals, conducting research, and disseminating findings. In other words, he completes the full cycle of planned research from problem identification to research dissemination.

2006

Nancy M. Albert, PhD, CCNS, CCRN, CNA selected 2006 Clinical Nurse Specialist Researcher of the Year. She is Director, Nursing Research and Innovation; Division of Nursing and Clinical Nurse Specialist; George M. and Linda H. Kaufman Center for Heart Failure, Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, OH.
Dr. Albert’s nomination included a description of her as inquisitive, energetic and prolific. She integrates the roles of the clinical nurse specialist, clinician, educator, consultant and researcher, but she excels in the role of nurse researcher. Her leadership inspires the nursing staff with a passion for research and has created an atmosphere where they can thrive and be successful.
