Annette DeVito Dabbs, RN, PhD, ACNS-BC, FAAN. Dr. Dabbs' longstanding record of patient-centered research began in the 1980s. While most CNSs strive to fulfill the competencies of the CNS role, few reach her level of success. Her research has informed nursing practice in areas such as adherence to complex regimens, active involvement of patients in their care and health related quality of life. Since 1998 she has received over $3.5 million in funding from the National Institute of Nursing Research and other specialty organizations to design and test internventions to promote self-care behaviors and active partnerships between patients and nurse providers.
